Veterinarians frequently encounter patients with neurologic, trauma and muscle disorders, as well as patients that are having difficulty standing post anesthesia. The UC Davis Large Animal Lift (LAL) can be applied to the non-sedated animal using one or two people and the animal lifted for evaluation and treatment. A recent review of the UC Davis LAL in 15 cases determined that the device is "simple to use and effective in lifting horses". Additionally, horses struggling to rise during anesthesia recovery have been assisted to their feet successfully using the the LAL. This new device is changing the face of equine medicine and surgery.
